Gone Fishing? Venturing Crew 190 Casts a New Vision for Young Adults in Central PA

Tired of the same old boring activities day after day? Want to get off your phone or computer and take real adventures? We thought so. That's because we are the founders of Venturing Crew 190.

Many of us (but not all) have been involved in scouting since we were really young. We went from being cub scouts in grade school, or boy scouts in middle school. We've earned merit badges, went camping, and advanced through the ranks. We've also helped lead other scouts, performed service projects in our community and finally, earned our Eagle rank. Now, we've "aged out" of scouting and honestly, we wanted to keep going!

Venturing is the next step for us. It's a Scouting America unit but doesn't require you to have been involved in scouting before. We get together for monthly meetings and talk about our interests and then pick activities that sound like fun. Then we plan the events along with our advisors to help mentor our "officers". These events happen once a month and are called "adventures".

So what is an adventure? It can be as simple as going bowling, or in this picture, going fishing! These are simple one-day outings that are an easy way to get started in venturing. But it doesn't stop there. We also are planning some weekend trips and even longer, more involved high-adventure trips too. The only limitation we have is what we can dream up and make happen. We want to grow our group to do bigger things. In 2026, we plan to go to Sea Base in the Florida Keys to experience sharks, coral reefs, islands, and all kinda of new experiences!

We'd love to have you get involved and not only do fun things, but learn how to be part of a team. Does this sound interesting to you? Get some more information and apply today!
