Diving into Something Different

Part of being an venturer is finding adventure, whereever it may be. While we've had some downtime over the summer due to vacations and work schedules, we found a day to head out on the road on a quest for something new.

Our voyage led us to a little-known location called Rock Run. Rock Run Valley is part of the Loyalsock State Forest and can be found in the town of Ralston, PA. We loaded up and made the nearly 3 hour journey (including a stop for lunch). What we found was a mountain stream where the water ran clear and cold! Despite the recent lack of rain, there was plenty of water to make a splash.

We drove up the long and winding gravel road towards to various parking areas. We tried one spot, but it wasn't quite there. So we kept going where we found a lot of cars and trucks. This was the middle falls area where there was a lot of nice places to sit and relax, or jump in the water. The crew tried these lower jumps first – about 5 feet off the water before moving across the creek to a higher jump, about 8 feet off the water! Some of the crew enjoyed the waterfall and natural rock slides.

After awhile there, we wanted to move to an even bigger adventure. We got back in the vehicles and took a short drive up to the Upper Falls area. There, the cliffs got bigger! The nice thing with Rock Run is that nearly all the jumps overhang deep and crystal clear water so we it's very safe. Still, we took the neccessary precautions. The jumps at the upper falls were between 10 feet and up to 20 feet to the water's surface! Even still we were hard pressed to barely touch the bottom.

We finally decided to pack it in for the day around 4 PM when the place got very crowded. We drive through the mountains to Forksville, PA to find some yummy Philly Cheesesteaks at Big Mike's and then continued towards our home location while stopping for some homemade ice cream in Montoursville at an ice cream shop called Eder's.

All in all, this was a fun but long day of exploring outside of our area. I know many of the crew would love to do this again sometime!
